MetalSucks Podcast #21

Our guest is the legendary Gene Hoglan. Not only is he the nicest guy in metal, but he has the longest list of active projects of anyone ever (including Testament and Dethklok). Gene gives us his thoughts about Jeff Hanneman’s funeral, why he isn’t drumming for Slayer, his struggle with weight and how his latest round of clinics, The Gene Hoglan Experience, is not just for drummers.

We also discuss Metallica’s new concert flick Through the Never; unbelievably it kinda lives up to some of the hype the band has been building around it. We also try to figure out which band could be the next band to do something on this scale… never say never.

Testament Taps Hoglan and Adler on New Album

Testament recently entered the studio with legendary producer Andy Sneap, but have left one member behind. Apparently Testament drummer Paul Bostaph has suffered a 'serious injury' and will be unable to record the new record with the band, leaving a hole in the band that is going to be filled by a few guest drummers. If you are going to get a fill in drummer, why not pick some of the best in metal today, Gene Hoglan, who has recorded with Testament on the 1997 album Demonic and Chris Adler, drummer for Lamb of God.

Chuck Billy, says regarding the musical direction of the new album,
The new album will most likely be a culmination of 'The Gathering' and 'The Formation of Damnation', but we're definitely not going to forget who we are or our roots. I think we've found a comfortable spot in our writing style.
Paul Bostaph is expected to make a full recovery and be back on track for the future touring plans of Testament.
