I have given up all hope of making it through this day alive. It doesn't seem to matter how much water, or advil I take, I can't shake the hangover, but I feel like I need more music. My body says NO but my mind says YES!

Saturday morning the regret starts to set in that you didn't want to walk the extra 8 blocks to see your favorite band who you just found out played all the songs you wanted to hear. It is the stench of the open dumpster behind Valhalla. But we must continue to carry on...almost there...

SXSW Metal Friday 3/15/13 (updated)

The pure destructive power of alcohol and sleep deprivation weighs heavy on your soul Friday morning. You begin to think that maybe all of this partying will not serve you well in the future and think about your poor poor liver screaming for vengeance as you try to live past fifty. All that is not important right now, just know that it gets worse the older and grumpier you get. A good pair of jogging shoes, a bike and a sh-tload of water will be the only way you will survive the next couple of days.

Friday of SXSW Music is not about looking cool, it is about keeping the swamp ass at bay and struggling to not pickle yourself, remember, this is a marathon not a sprint and treat it as such! That being said...where is the free booze? Many tough choices on the schedule today, but life is full of those as I outlined above.

Look for a couple different items, panels, discussions, and of course Flatstock too!!

Thursday, in years past, typically has the biggest metal day parties and showcases stacked altogether in one jam packed insane 20 hour block. This year, Thursday is a little on the weak side, at least on the metal party side of things. Nothing wrong with a little break in the action, sleep in a little bit, get some work done at the office and get ready for the Metal Sucks Showcase at the Dirty Dog.

SXSW Metal Wednesday 3/13/13

Wednesday is when the music really gets rolling. I have my badge and am ready to conquer SXSW 2013. Well, if by conquer you mean find free booze and BBQ while watching brutal metal, then yes, that is what I am after.

The Pitchfork show is most likely where I will be starting my day, Encrust kills it and Skeletonwitch is one of the best live bands I have ever seen and I missed their last show at Red7 so I am in on that, and then of course probably slide into Hoek's Metal Fest, (apparently now cancelled or moved - check the link!) and on to showcases during the night.

SXSW Metal Tuesday 3/12/13

I have been attending SXSW for seventeen years in a row now and it seems to get going earlier every single year. Not only do we get Interactive, Film and EDU, now the showcases and music parties start on Tuesday for the Music portion of the conference. Granted a little slow, but we have a bit of metal to get things rolling on Tuesday.

Be sure you are planning ahead for parking, that is always the biggest bitch during this week. It is the only time I ever pay to park downtown since I can leave my car in a garage all day. I took my bike with me last year to get around and it was the best thing I had ever done. Be ready for huge crowds already!
