Former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano has somehow joined Volbeat. No I didn't stutter, after a few hours being out of Anthrax and touting his inability to use them as a 'creative fulfillment ' the news surfaces of his new home. In a statement Caggiano says:
"Wow! I have to say I'm completely blown away by the turn of events over the last few weeks here in Denmark and at this point an update is definitely in order.
"To start with, I came to Denmark about a month ago to produce the newVOLBEAT record which in and of itself has been an incredibly exciting adventure from a producer's perspective thus far. However, I'm extremely happy to say my relationship with these guys will not end there as it turns out... it's just beginning!
"Michael had asked me on the phone before I got out here if I would play some guest solos on the new album in addition to my other duties, and, of course, I was thrilled about that and agreed to do so. When I actually got to Denmark and started going through the material, this turned out to be so much more than that.
"After weeks of collaboration between Michael and I, it became quite clear that we had an amazing creative chemistry together and a huge mutual respect for one another.
"It's so refreshing and inspiring to be creative again on a songwriting level that words can't even describe it and the vibe between Anders, Jon,Michael and I is just awesome. I'd say an artistic relationship like this one is very rare and it's also something I don't take for granted.
"When the guys asked me if I was interested in joining VOLBEAT the other day, my jaw just about hit the floor! It actually didn't even register in my brain properly until the next morning, but I gotta say, it also didn't take me long to decide. It really isn't the way I envisioned the rest of my year to play out but at the same time, THIS feels more 'right' to me than anything I could have possibly imagined and I'm going for it!
"To all my fans, family, friends and overall supporters that have reached out to me over this last month wondering if I'm ever gonna play guitar again or what I'm up to in general etc., see you all soon my friends and get ready for a wild ride!!!"
I really think this seems kind of strange, but also indicates that this may have been in the works for some time, and it was a matter of timing getting out of commitments with Anthrax. Wither way, he will sell more records with Volbeat that's for sure.

In a post on Anthrax's facebook page, the announcement that Rob Caggiano's departure from the band is official. There were no reasons given by the band, but should prove interesting in the coming weeks as the band preps for the Metal Alliance Tour. Read the Statement below:
Rob has been an integral part of Anthrax for so many years, as our lead guitarist, in a production capacity, but most of all, as our close friend.
His contributions to the band have been enormous. While we are sad that he is leaving, we wish him nothing but great success going forward, and hope to share the stage with him again sometime down the road.
With the Metal Alliance Tour on the horizon, we have been considering several lead guitarist options, and will be making an announcement on that shortly.

I am sure there is a super group forming with Paul Di'anno, or Ripper Owens you can check out for other gigs. I hear Geoff Tate is hiring. Either way I am sure he will land on his feet, as one of the men who helped revitalize the fading legend of Anthrax.
It had been previously announced that Anthrax would headline the third annual Metal Alliance Tour, set to kick off in March and run through the month of April. The band will perform its fan-favorite 1987 album "Among The Living" in its entirety during the trek, which will feature support from Exodus, Municipal Waste, Holy Grail and a couple of additional bands, to be announced at a later date. Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian said:
"Holy crap am I so excited about this year's Metal Alliance Tour!
It's been a great year and a half for us since 'Worship Music' came out and to cap it off with a Grammy nomination.

As you can see Central Texas, we apparently are not metal enough to support yet another tour through Austin and San Antonio. Unless they are going to do a warm up during SXSW like we saw last year...Just saying...
The Metal Alliance Tour took the place of several different smaller tours that usually hit during the spring each year. Beginning in 2011, the lineups have offered some traditionally diverse acts in representation of the name. According to a post on the tours Facebook page you will see Anthrax, Exodus, Municipal Waste and Holy Grail. Not a bad roster so far, but not a wide selection of bands, but still so far so good...
Look for dates to be announced soon, and tickets on sale in January.
Today the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has announced the nominees for this year’s “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” Grammy, and once again they have proven that metal means nothing in the realm of this awards gala. Having turned their nose up to the separate categories a few years ago, giving the award as much depth as the kiddie pool, now you can see which band who had the biggest name gets a nod from the academy voters.

I am pretty sure this award won't be on the broadcast. Maybe someday we will get an actual award from the...oh nevermind...
If there was one promotion that you would think did not stand a chance in hell, it probably would be the mixing of Metal and a cruise, but apparently it is the newest rage. First the 70,000 Tons of Metal set sail a few years ago, then announced this year the Barge to Hell will set sail and now Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival is about to launch their own version.
Alluded to at the Golden God Awards show by Machine Head and now confirmed by our friends at Metal Insider the latest branded cruise will take place December 7-11th according to festival founder Kevin Lyman. Already-announced lineup of Lamb of God, Anthrax, Machine Head and Suicide
Silence, Lyman mentioned there would be additional bands playing from Metal
Blade, Sumerian, Roadrunner and Century Media. There will also be a film festival presented by Slipknot’s Clown and
Fangoria. And Clown will also be curating a charity art show.
So metal heads, stock up on SPF 2500 and get ready for a long winter in the sea, now I just need to figure out where I can get the cash to go on one of these damn things...
Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, the world's largest touring heavy music festival is back for its fifth year, The main stage will be our strongest ever with the headlining slot occupied by multi-platinum Iowa legends SLIPKNOT. Next up will be legendary thrash metal kings SLAYER and then a major special guest (rumored to be MOTÖRHEAD) will be playing in the third slot, the details of which will be announced on March 5. Brandied Cherries
Build, stir with ice and garnish with a cherry

.75oz Beefeater 24
.5oz Raspberry Simple Syrup
.5oz Iced Tea
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass. Add Ice and Stir
Strain into a Double Old Fashioned Glass
Lemon Twist for garnish

Combine all ingredients with Ice,

At the first glance at the press release, it appeared that this might be a post-apocalypse hoax band letter, arranged to piss off fans of every band in the aformentioned title. Apparently the joke is on us as this gathering of dark forces appears to be a reality. With almost an entire albums worth of material already demoed, TEMPLE OF THE BLACK MOON is another in a long string of 'opposites attract' supergroups springing into action recently.
"Calling themselves the TEMPLE OF THE BLACK MOON, the group (who describe their output as "music for an evil film noir') are an eclectic stew of musicians/hell-raisers/miscreants in the ungainly form of Dani Filth (CRADLE OF FILTH), Rob Caggiano (ANTHRAX, THE DAMNED THINGS), King (formerly of GORGOROTH and OV HELL) and John Tempesta (formerly of WHITE ZOMBIE and now drumming with THE CULT)."
Explaining the origins of the name, vo-killist Dani Filth had this to mutter on the subject: "We had an innumerable amount of names that never seemed likely to stick, that was until we put our proverbial heads together and narrowed it down to just three or four, and then tossed for it (proverbially of course) using a silver Norwegian crown (we couldn't find any proper money). The name TEMPLE OF THE BLACK MOON represents the rigorous worship of desire, (the black moon astrologically has always held association with the dark Goddess Lilith) and of course the ramifications of the lunar eclipse, always a herald for death and ill-omen."
TEMPLE OF THE BLACK MOON promises to be at least interesting enough to wonder what the hell it will soundlike, but I am intrigued as a fan of all of these bands over their careers. That and the list of song titles is pretty promising:"Infernal Desire Machine", "Don't Call Up What You Can't Put Down", "Dark Eyes For Trouble", "Beautifully Perverse" and "C.N.T (All That's Missing Is You)".
Look for TOTBM to hit the road and have some music fit for human consumption in 2012...
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has joined forces with former ANTHRAX guitarist Dan Spitz in a brand new project called RED LAMB. The band's debut release, which will consist largely of the music Spitz previously recorded under the DEUXMONKEY banner with vocalist Wade Black (CRIMSON GLORY, SEVEN WITCHES, LEATHERWOLF), ACCEPT bassist Peter Baltes and drummer Patrick Johansson (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, W.A.S.P.), will be mixed by Johnny K (full name: John Karkazis; DISTURBED, SEVENDUST, MACHINE HEAD, STAIND).
Black announced his departure from DEUXMONKEY in April, explaining that the band's "songs were not up to my standards." He added that he gave Spitz "a verbal cease-and-desist on all my lyrics and vocals" in order to ensure that Wade's contributions would be completely wiped off the project's debut release.
In a December 2010 interview, Mustaine revealed that he helped fine-tune the songs on DEUXMONKEY's debut album after hearing some of the material in its early stages of development.
"[Dan] was working on a little side project, and I'd heard it a while ago and it kind of went by in passing 'cause he was just starting it," Mustaine said. "And I heard it about three weeks ago; he was almost done. And I said, 'Man, I love this record.' I said, 'And do you think it's done?' And he goes, 'Yeah.' And he goes, 'Why? What do you think?' And I said, 'Well, I would kind of do this and that.' And he goes, 'Really? Go ahead.' And I went, 'Really?' So I rolled up my sleeves and I completely dedicated myself to Danny's record for the last three weeks, working tirelessly in my studio on this record with him. And it's that good. I heard it and I just went, 'Oh my God!' It's like a cross between, say, DISTURBED, SOUNDGARDEN and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE kind of thing. Little bit of some smatterings of ANTHRAX because of the speed stuff, but it's much more modern and much more heavy sounding."
