SXSW 2014 Metal Master List (Updated 3/12/14)

So here it is, the SXSW 2014 metal list, I decided to drop it all into one post for you to peruse at your leisure, I plan on breaking it down by day next week so you can more easily reference it as you are on walkabout during the festival, but for now hopefully this will suffice. I have not included some of the weekend shows prior, Metal Monsters of Texas or Death By Southwest mainly to keep the listing to the Music portion of the conference, but check those out too if you are in town.

The list is long and I tried to give you an idea of what they cost, or RSVP, and of course if they are official showcases and part of SXSW proper, that will be a wristband or badge for you to purchase. I find that to be worth while, but I barrel through at least five days worth of music every year so it balances out the cost. This will be my 19th year of South by Southwest, having plans is good, but being flexible is king, eat tacos, drink water and wear comfortable shoes, best advice ever...

If I missed something feel free to e-mail it to me chuck@nocontrolradio.com and I will try and add it asap!

Orion Music & More Part Deux

Just announced, Metallica's Orion Music and More festival headed to Detroit this year June 8th and 9th. No real news on bands just yet, but of course you can follow all the regular stuff to keep up to date on the latest details or share your ideas for bands, I am sure they will take your opinion to heart. More details due out in February.

Mayhem Cruise Cancelled

It appears that the organizers of the most mainstream metal cruise have decided to cancel their jaunt through the Caribbean scheduled for early December. No real reason has been given regarding the demise of this version of the metal boat, but it is really speculation that it might have something to do with Lamb of God lead singer, headliner of the cruise, being jailed for over a month and scheduling their own tour in the fall, but like I said nothing is really mentioned in the official statement:

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we have been forced to cancel the Mayhem Festival Cruise. If you purchased a cruise package, you will be automatically refunded to the credit card you used to purchase. If you used a prepaid card or gift card to purchase the cruise, please contact Rose Tours for your refund (215-663-8800). If you used a credit or debit card, you will see the credit within the next 2 to 3 weeks.

We are also offering anyone who purchased a cruise ticket a lifetime complimentary pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Summer Tour.  You will still receive your cruise refund in addition to the lifetime pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival Tour.  This pass is valid on any tour date beginning in 2013. Details on getting these lifetime passes will be announced shortly on mayhemcruise.com.

At least you can expect to be taken care of as an early buyer for this one, and you can always hit 70000 Tons of Metal or the Barge to Hell to get your high seas fix of metal.

Metallica Announce Their Own 'Orion Music Festival'

Metallica have announced today at orionmusicandmore.com the birth of their own music festival, Orion Music and More (as you may have seen in the promo video above). Hand picking 22 artists for two dates, June 23rd and 24th in Atlantic City, NJ.

Apparently they are trying to incorporate several different lifestyle events and musical genres into one fest. So far the line-up is decidedly not metal, at all. The Sword, Avenged Sevenfold and Liturgy are probably the closest, but with Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, The Black Angels, Roky Erikson, and Gary Clark Jr. will make for a more eclectic scene akin to Bonnaroo.

2-day passes are running $125, and front of stage will cost an extra $100, only if you are a Metclub member, and $150 for the rest of the schmucks out there. I have my opinions, but will hold and see how this shakes out in the next few days...
