The Revolver Golden Gods Awards took place this week, and although it’s great that there is some form of awards show for metal music, does it really represent what is happening out there in the world of metal, or is it just glad-handing the most popular bands they can find at the time? We also listen to and discuss the new Slayer song: is it even necessary, or does their legacy supersede the music?

God Hates Behemoth

The highly anticipated inaugural Decibel Magazine tour kicks off in a mere eight days in Columbus, OH. It wasn't too late, however, for the venue owners to prohibit the bands from appearing at The Brewmaster's Gate. Behemoth, Watain, The Devil's Blood, and In Solitude are being forbidden from playing at the venue because of religious conflicts with the venue owners.

These bands are no strangers to this type of treatment, and a new venue has already been confirmed. The Columbus, OH show will now be at Al Rosa. Behemoth's front man, Nergal, comments further:

"Wow, big motherf-ckin' WOW! We are facing a legendary moment: Amerika, the land of the free, is banning Behemoth coz of religious beliefs. The madness starts in Ohio, but of korz we are playing anyway. Nothing can stop us now. God, please save me from this freedom…"

The inaugural Decibel Magazine Tour will feature not just the long-awaited stateside return of Polish blackened death metal overlords Behemoth, but support from Swedish black metal provocateurs Watain, Dutch prog mystics the Devil's Blood and Swedish old-school occultists In Solitude.

NERGAL Ousted from Next Season of "The Voice of Poland"

According to TheNews.pl, Poland's public TV broadcaster TVP has announced that BEHEMOTH frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski will not return as a judge on the second season of the hit singing competition "The Voice Of Poland" after another alleged incident of insulting religious sentiment in Poland.

"Adam Darski will not be given his own program on TVP, nor will he be a juror in a second series of 'The Voice Of Poland', even if the network decides to commission one [a second series]," said spokesperson for TVP, Joanna Stempien-Rogalinska.

Earlier this month, footage emerged of Nergal pretending to be a priest and performing a mock miracle during an October 1 concert at a Warsaw club by the Polish rock band TIMES NEW ROMAN. Footage published across the Polish media showed members of TIMES NEW ROMAN on stage in wheelchairs. The musicians were attended by nurses and dressed in pajamas. Following an announcement that the men could not play, Darski appeared dressed as a priest. After blessing the musicians, the men rose from their wheelchairs and proceeded with the concert. The footage prompted a swift response from the chairman of TVP. In a statement, Chairman Juliusz Braun described the incident as "provocative behavior, showing a lack of respect not only for religious beliefs, but also for illnesses and the disabled." Braun has also asked Darski and the producer of "The Voice Of Poland" to explain themselves. The last episode of the current season of "The Voice Of Poland" will air in the first week of December.

Behemoth Frontman Acquitted...Again

According to The Associated Press, vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski of Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH was found innocent of offending religious feelings in connection with a September 2007 incident when he reportedly called the Catholic Church "the most murderous cult on the planet" during the band's performance in Gdynia and tore up a copy of the Bible, calling it "a book of lies."

A Polish judge ruled earlier today (Thursday, August 18) that Darski's ripping up of a Bible during a show was a form of artistic expression consistent with the style of his band.

Judge Krzysztof Wieckowski said he considered Darski's actions "a form of art." He added that the court had no intention of limiting freedom of expression or the right to criticize religion.

The court said audience members who testified said their religious feelings had not been hurt despite the fact they were Christians.

Commented Nergal: "I'm so glad to see that intelligence won over religious fanatics in my home country. Though there's still so much work to be done to make things right… But I'm sure that I'm on the right path to ultimate freedom! The battle is won, but the war ain't over."
