MetalSucks Podcast Episode #13

The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato guests on the podcast this week! Greg tells us about how he first got into metal, his early love for Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and Bad Brains, what the term “DIY” means today, the band’s recent decision to finally hire a manager and balancing that with staying in creative control, the aches and pains of getting old and almost burning down the Mohawk last time they were in Austin.

Also: Chuck and Godless discuss the winner of the Shat Bracket, Varg Vikernes’ latest rant and Phil LaBonte’s recent non-nonsensical Tweetings.

Songs:
Pantera – Primal Concrete Sledge
Dillinger Escape Plan – Hero of the Soviet Union

MetalSucks Podcast Episode #12

This week Chuck sits down with Cory Brandan of Norma Jean on the Summer Slaughter tour and talks Christian Metal, having kids, and getting into the Beastie Boys as a kid. Chuck shares his miserable, sweltering experience from the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival and wonders whether that festival’s low ticket sales (as well as the poor sales of Gigantour) signal the end of the era of the American touring metal festival. David Draiman screamed at the rain much like our old buddy Dave Mustaine and backpedals from calling out Lemmy but doesn’t shy away from criticizing Roger Waters and Dallas Coyle. The Lemmy deathwatch goes on high alert with Motorhead cutting the Wacken Open Air performance short due to his health problems, plus we make jokes about Slayer, which is always fun.

With so much going on, it almost slipped my mind to post this week's chart. The MetalSucks Podcast and subsequent pageantry that followed our launch this week has kept me extremely busy! Speaking of which, to all my Oklahoma friends, I hope all is well, and take care! All of us in these parts have seen this devastation before, so keep your chin up and hugs the ones you care about.

Chuck and Godless Recruited for Metalsucks Podcast

I have been a little lacking in the blog area the past few weeks, and it has mainly been due to getting my crap together for all kinds of new stuff coming up in the metal world. I have been constantly working to expand my empire of metal, and slowly but surely it is coming along nicely.

I am about to start writing for Metal Injection, which gives me an outlet to do music reviews to start, and hopefully someday get more commentary and stuff rolling, but announced today, our little show Visions From the Darkside will transform itself into the METAL SUCKS PODCAST! That's right, the biggest metal website on the planet has taken a love to all things snarky and seen fit to add Me and Godless to their arsenal of stupidity!

We even had a few quotes:
“We are proud to take on The MetalSucks Podcast. It has been a dream of mine since I was a little baby boy to talk smack about people who could care less about my opinion, to people who hate everything I say. Now that dream has become a reality, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring you our nihilistic world view of metal, and poop. We do talk about poop a lot. MetalSucks readers will finally get what they deserve, a couple of middle-aged metal dudes with opinions about stuff they are too old to understand. Did I just tweet?” – Chuck

“While I was originally offended we were asked to audition, I have to admit that listening to the other try-out shows was hugely entertaining. It was kind of like being the sane one in an asylum filled with mental defectives, loners, ugly nurses, and self-immolating freaks. Now those inmates can listen to a real show and jerk off to what they think I look like, which is for the best. I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating — our show is not only the best extreme metal talk show in the history of metal, and the history of talk — it’s lately become the greatest talk show of any genre ever and we won’t stop until our conversation has risen to the greatest in recorded or unrecorded history. MetalSucks readers can now expect and demand the best extreme talk possible, and we’re the only assholes on earth who can deliver. So ok. We’ll do it.” – Godless
So kiss my ass now, because my head is getting HUGE! Actually, it humbles me to have been selected and since we are the first, i hope we can do those dudes at the Metal Mansion right...wish us luck, and tune in Monday the 20th to hear the first one!

Revolver Announce Golden Gods Nominees and Award Show Headliner: Metallica

The fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards will take place Thursday, May 2, at Club Nokia in Downtown LA. Fozzy frontman and WWE pro-wrestling personality Chris Jericho will host for the fourth consecutive year. The nominees in 11 different fan-voted categories, plus the recipients of this year's prestigious Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, Golden God Award and Riff Lord were revealed at a press conference at the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood in Los Angeles.

The Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, will go to hard-rock and metal icons Metallica as well as the headlining slot on the show that will be broadcast live on AXS TV and XBox Live.  Metallica's Lars Ulrich commented:
"Since the Revolver Golden Gods Awards is fast becoming THE most rocking awards ceremony in the hard rock world, we are beyond psyched to be at the receiving end of this shout out and in the distinguished company of RUSH, Lemmy, Ozzy and MÖTLEY CRÜE. I was hanging out and presenting at the shenanigans two years ago and the energy in the room and the vibe backstage was beyond f-cking cool, so Metallica is chomping at the bit to partake in this year's event. Mastodon Contribute Song to Monsters Inc.

So all I have to go on is their status update from Facebook, but the idea that Mastodon is working with Disney seems legit. It appears that they are adding a new song to the sequel to Pixar's Monsters Inc franchise due out in the summer of 2013.

Mastodon are no strangers to soundtracks, with the score to Jonah Hex and the best intro ever to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, it just makes sense to lend another...
